Winged Figure II

John is passionate about carving. He never plans what to do. It is usually the nature of the stone, its features, colour, and veins that dictate the outcome. As John does not use electrical tools it is a slow process, but this is part of the attraction, as is not knowing what he will end up with in a few weeks time.

The stone that John uses range from Alabaster, to Marble, Soapstone and Limestone. John chooses the type of stone depending on the qualities of colour, finish and texture he wants to achieve in the finished carving. For example, Alabaster has a marvellous 'translucence' as compared to Limestone which has a more 'solid, masculine' look and feel about it.
